How to Make Scoobies

Playing with Scoubidous
I don’t mean that brown dog traveling the country in a Mystery Machine with several other cartoon characters, I meant the small little plastic strings that children nowadays are chasing to make bracelets and key rings with. Having been in the crafting world since France discovered it more than five decades ago, it has been a staple in crafts and the lives of little kids wanting to cement their friendship in braided, knotted plastic strings. Let’s learn exactly how to make scoobies with a few simple steps.
Videos on making Scoubidous
It starts with a plastic string…
First step in any project is to find the center. Begin with folding the strings in half and mentally marking the center. Projects will almost always start with a square stitch to be the initial knot to work with before moving on to other kinds of stitches and knots. And there are several kinds, almost limitless and some are even dependent on the skill level you have with stitching. When finally making that first pull on the square stitch, make sure that you don’t put on too much pressure because as much as these strings are durable and will stand the test of time, they could easily break with one extra tug here or there.
Some of the most basic stitches include the Chinese Staircase stitch, Spiral Braid stitch, Butterfly stitch, Cobra stitch, Tornado stitch and Fluted Columns stitch. Do not be intimidated by these, despite their names, they are pretty simple to follow and are considered some of the more basic techniques you can start out with. There are also different stitches or knots that you can employ when closing or finishing a project. These are called Finishing Stitches. These include the Completion stitch, Brick Completion stitch, SuperBrick Completion stitch and so much more!
Tug on your stitches properly and make sure each stitch as equal amount of pressure or pull as the rest of the stitches or else your project will look uneven. The more you practice, the more you will get the hang of it. So don’t worry if your first attempt in creating scoobidou jewelry isn’t top notch export quality.
